Aniseed is annual herb belonging to the family of Apiaceae. Widely used as a household spice. Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of dried seed of Anisum offcinalis. Aniseed oil is known for its calming effect and is a good sedative. It is a spicy, liquorice-scented oil commonly used for flavour confectionery and toothpaste. Its warming, stimulating quality eases muscle spasms, coughing, and digestive and general abdominal disturbances. It can be used an insecticide by using diffusers.
